Job Description

Work Model: On-Site
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $53,303 - $72,450 annually (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Day
Status: Temporary Full-time; 2 years with possibility of extension pursuant to performance and funding

Position Summary
University Health Network (UHN) is looking to fill the role of Postdoctoral Researcher.

The successful candidate will lead research related to collaborative activities between Schroeder Pain Assessment and Rehabilitation Research Centre (SPARC), and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute - University Centre.

SPARC conducts research focused on chronic pain, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that draws on the fields of biomedical engineering, physical medicine and rehabilitation, clinical epidemiology, and kinesiology. CMCC conducts research in areas related to chiropractic care including spine and joint instability and degeneration, inflammation, and chronic pain.

We are looking for a motivated individual to lead research in musculoskeletal/nervous system dysfunction and mechanisms of chronic pain, with a view to translating basic science to improve patient health outcomes. The postdoctoral researcher will use their background in basic science research to collaborate closely with researchers and clinicians including physiatrists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, kinesiologists, and psychologists

Duties:

  • Prepare grant applications
  • Develop research protocols and Research Ethics Board applications
  • Conduct and oversee research, including data collection
  • Analyze data
  • Prepare manuscripts
  • Present research findings at scientific meetings
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary research team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant discipline (e.g., biomedical science, biochemistry, cellular & molecular biology, biomedical engineering, kinesiology, physiology, neuroscience) must be obtained within the previous 5 years
  • Wet lab expertise (e.g., cell culture, qPCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, electrophysiology, proteomics)
  • Excellent record of scientific publication
  • Successful record in obtaining competitive research funding
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Clinical experience is considered an asset but not required
