Summary
Tilray is looking to hit the next stage of its expansion plans, and we want to shore up our payroll team. Our Payroll Associate role is uniquely positioned to contribute significantly to a rapidly growing global business. Specifically, we are looking for a Payroll Associate with experience in US payroll processing, compliance, and stock-based earnings.
We have multiple office locations across Canada and the US. This role can be based out of either our Leamington or Toronto facilities.
Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of biweekly payroll processing for 400+ US employees
Understanding of employee compensation as it relates to supplemental earnings, tipped employees, shift differential pay, and multiple job rates.
Manage equity payrolls and ensure estimated tax payments are remitted timely. Validate equity tax rates per state.
Maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
Submit registration application to State agencies for employee tax withholding, unemployment insurance, and all other required payroll tax withholdings.
Assists in quarter end and year end process, agency filing and distribution of W-2s and 1099’s.
Facilitate internal and external audits for 401k, Workers’ Compensation, and internal controls by providing necessary payroll documentation and reports to auditors.
Identify process improvement initiatives and define standards for new processes while maintaining SOX compliance and payroll best practices.
Collaborate with HR and finance teams to validate and reconcile payroll data, ensuring accuracy and consistency between systems.
Respond to employee and HR inquiries related to payroll, deductions, tax forms, and other payroll-related matters in a timely and professional manner.
Integrations experience an asset.
Qualifications and education requirements
Must have 2 years Workday Payroll experience.
Experience in executing internal controls over financial reporting under SOX.
Experience in reporting earnings related to the equity compensation is a must.
Previous payroll experience in large scale payroll system/software required – Workday experience an asset
Advanced understanding of domestic payroll processes and payroll tax laws
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with variety of internal and external customers.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Ability to evaluate, analyze, prioritize work under tight timelines, and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Excel spreadsheets knowledge to include use of V-lookups and Pivot Tables
