The opportunity

Under the general guidance of the QC director, the Manager, Metrology & Lab Support provides oversight to the lab support, lab instrument calibration, and LIMS/SAP functions, as well as for leading the teams.

How you'll spend your day

  • Manage Laboratory Instrument Qualification Schedules and ensure adherence to GMP controlled timelines.
  • Manage the contractors that complete calibration activities within the Lab.
  • Conduct lab instrument calibration/ troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance standards (GMP, GLP, SOP, T&Q) are being met for all Calibration activities.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new technology and equipment in the Laboratory.
  • Collaborate with various Teva Canada departments (such as Quality Control, Information Technology, Quality Assurance, and Corporate Engineering / Maintenance) to ensure all requirements for new technology and equipment implementation are captured and executed in accordance with GMP, SOP and company priorities and commitments.
  • Liaise with QC Lab Management to determine new technology and equipment end user requirements.
  • Assist in the vendor selection process (as required.)
  • Responsible for Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in Quality Operations to facilitate the efficient, compliant and timely analytical testing and release of samples by the QC Laboratory in accordance with regulatory (GMP, cGMP, and SOP) requirements.
  • Acts as a primary contact for LIMS applications.
  • Communicates with other Teva global sites using Labware LIMS to provide guidance and experience in order to maximize benefits of information available in Teva Canada.
  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of clean glassware and plasticware.
  • Handles lab-generated waste and ensures proper disposal of laboratory waste.
  • Maintains sufficient stock of lab consumables.
  • Provides basic services to support QC analytical testing and product release in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.
  • Lead projects to enhance laboratory productivity, support laboratory work functions or compliance needs as it relates to instrumentation.
  • Support efforts to reduce/minimize instrumentation downtime.
  • Encourage and implement cost effective solutions to instrument qualifications and repairs and general laboratory support requirements.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with laboratory management to support QC Laboratory Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies that will improve overall operation of the department.
  • Supervise and lead the Metrology and Lab support team, responsible for performance management, mentoring, professional development, and engagement.
  • Responsible for staff in accordance with the OHSA, Teva EH&S policies and procedures (including WHMIS, PPE etc.). Ensure staff is trained in, and adhere to, safe operational practices and work procedures.
  • Actively participates in and facilitates meeting with QC staff, peers and others to address and resolve issues that impact group.
  • Effectively communicates, exhibits the company values, maintains priorities and monitors training to ensure a high standard of performance.
  • Hazard recognition and Investigation Skills: Identify, prevent, and proactively correct workplace hazards and conditions. Perform incident/accident investigations, root cause analysis, and establish appropriate corrective actions.
  • Role modeling: Role modelling of EHS practices to prevent the release of materials/energy, reduce EHS impacts, and ensure adherence to EHS regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Other related duties as required.

Your experience and qualifications

  • University Degree in Chemistry or a related science.
  • Five (5)+ Years of relevant experience; Preferred: Leadership experience
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with a wide variety of analytical instrumentation employed in a pharmaceutical laboratory
  • Extensive experience in laboratory instrument trouble shooting and repairs (mechanical & electronic), maintenance and qualification procedures
  • Knowledge of LabWare LIMS
  • Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent strategic planning and execution skills coupled with a "can do" attitude
  • Demonstrated staff and personal development skills
  • Good understanding of evolution, trends and challenges of the generic pharmaceutical industry
  • Good understanding of financial terms, measures and budgeting process
  • Travel between sites within Teva Canada
