The Opportunity
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people. The Technician, Senior will provide guidance, instructions, directions, and leadership to Test Lab Operations team. Identifies the team's strengths and weaknesses. In addition to a primary production role, leads and assists with day-to-day solution activities and overall shift efficiency. Coordinates production activities and serve as a main interface with personnel in other areas including technical support resources.
What You'll Do:
Leads and participates in the day-to-day activities within the laboratory. This includes (but is not limited to): equipment checks, cleaning, stocking the lab with necessary materials and lab supplies as per documented procedures.
The first point of contact for all manufacturing issues in absence of Team Leader or Supervisor.
Acts as a resource to Manufacturing and test areas on issues of cartridge testing or Equipment performance.
Approves test instructions for non-production studies.
Focuses on next shift success by ensuring equipment is prepared for incoming shift.
Provides feedback to Supervisor on the progress and barriers to achieving production goals.
Monitors reagents, materials and other key consumables and manages them
Maintain lab reference instruments daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly; DxC600, ABL, Hemochrons, Tonometer's, centrifuges, hematocrit centrifuge, timers and pipettes.
Reviews and updates EquipmentTrak.
Assists in organizing engineering experiments, planned equipment maintenance, and planned lab shutdowns.
Completes Quality Control charts for instruments daily; checks for trends and investigate any out-of-range errors.
Performs Global Software Testing; VST experiments before each software release for all product types and Data integrity check / Data gather for all completed coefficients studies
Verifies spiking solutions, update spike calculator and Spike Solution Verification Log.
Support Material Coordinator: planning and testing non-production studies
Provides support for customer related investigation (PQA).
Maintains fluid retains.
Ensures Test Lab manufacturing areas meet audit readiness.
Supports Training, provides technical direction to co-workers to strengthen overall knowledge of processes.
Understands and complies with Quality and EH&S policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Acts as a role model and ensures operating procedures are followed.
Participates in production projects and process changes as directed by Supervisor.
Communicates ideas and suggestions for improving processes to leadership and actively participates in implementing solutions.
Other miscellaneous duties as may be required.
Required Qualifications:
1 -3 years College Diploma in relevant field.
5-8 years relevant work experience
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize own daily work to meet established schedule.
Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
Detail-oriented.
Ability to convey communications clearly, concisely, and accurately.
Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationships; display socially and professionally appropriate behavior.
Ability to work independently and in groups.
Adheres to all safety and security policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Quality requirements within a regulated, cGMP environment.
Work hours: Monday - Thursday, 10:00 am to 8:30 pm.
