What would my role be?

Reporting to the Director, Decision Support, you will:

  • Be accountable for the efficient and accurate completion of the Minimum Data Set / Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS/ RAI) assessments through the review of relevant medical documentation and consultation with members of the clinical interdisciplinary team.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Clinical Data Specialist, other members of Decision Support, as well as members of interdisciplinary teams and some corporate services, namely Client Services and Health Information.
  • Be responsible for supporting the RAI process according to Bruyère Health policies, MOHLTC regulations, and all relevant standards of practice and inter-RAI requirements (as per the Canadian Institute for Health Information User's Manual).
  • Consult with designated interdisciplinary staff members, regulated and unregulated staff to support accurate and efficient RAI-MDS coding.
  • Enter, in a timely and accurate manner, RAI-MDS data into the designated software application.
  • Work with members of Decision Support, Hospital Program management and clinical staff to develop or enhance processes that ensure data accuracy, efficient data collection, timely assessment completion and data utilization.

How do I qualify?

Required:

  • Two (2) year Community College Diploma in Health Information Management or Membership in a regulated health profession
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Previous experience coding the RAI-MDS assessment in LTC or CCC setting;
  • Experience coding in other regulatory data system such as the National Rehabilitation Reporting System

Preferred:

  • Fluent in French and English

What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?

  • Demonstrated interest and experience ability to code RAI-MDS Assessments, both on clinical units as well as in Health Records in the ongoing support of RAI-MDS system and processes
  • Demonstrated attention to detail details with strong ability to follow established coding protocol and instructions
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills and proven ability to consistently meet critical deadlines
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work in a professional, consultative and collaborative fashion with interdisciplinary team members
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of various computer software applications, and the willingness and ability to upgrade skills as required
  • Able to function in an efficient and self-directed manner where the incumbent will independently seek answers to questions that arise
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
