How will you make an impact?

The position is a parental leave coverage role (10-month term) based in Ottawa, ON.

As a production supervisor, you will be at the forefront of our commitment to continuous improvement and customer service. Your role is to organize and coordinate manufacturing activities, lead by example, and foster a safe and motivating environment for production employees. By applying Lean methodologies and project management tools, you will continuously work to improve production outputs and optimize scheduling, all while maintaining a strong customer focus to enhance service levels.

What will you do?

  • Leading and developing a team of 37 production employees and 2.5 production shifts.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities according to corporate policies and procedures. Process staff time records and personal leave using corporate applications.
  • Partner with all functions on-site to ensure accurate and up-to-date training plans and curricula.
  • Promote production effectiveness by communicating and cooperating with other departments and shifts.
  • Train and develop staff through coaching, leadership and effective performance management to enhance and improve business results.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing, interview applicants, and hire qualified candidates as business requires.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by encouraging staff to report safety hazards and follow EH&S guidelines.
  • Investigate safety incidents, develop corrective actions with EH&S, and implement and communicate changes.
  • Continuously assess the physical condition of the workplace regarding safety and ergonomic correctness. Implement 5S and maintain it through daily walks and audit processes.
  • Apply leader standard work to prioritize lean management, use visual controls to analyze actual versus expected, and maintain the subject area of daily accountability to drive improvement activities.
  • Visually track, monitor, and analyze production performance indicators. Establish triggers and take sustainable corrective actions to improve quality, reduce waste, and enhance efficiencies.
  • Drive continued efficiency improvements using metrics, 5S, and the PPI process. Recommend and implement changes in manufacturing procedures to improve product quality and production efficiency.
  • Participate in and adopt projects for new equipment and processes to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Assist in investigating production problems and failures. Identify possible causes and coordinate with appropriate functional areas to find solutions.
  • Ensure that all production equipment is operating within specifications.
  • Actively lead and participate in Kaizen events and improvement teams to reduce all forms of waste and improve manufacturing efficiencies
  • Other duties may be assigned to help drive the operation's performance improvement and revenue growth.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Science, or a related field.
  • Equivalent education, training and meaningful work experience combinations may be considered.

Experience

  • 3-5 years experience in Manufacturing environment
  • 3-5 years experience in People Management
  • Demonstrated ability in people leadership, preferably in manufacturing environments and regulated industries like pharmaceutical, food, or chemical processing.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Leadership and supervisory skills are required to lead, coach, motivate, and empower employees. Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to employees, peers, and management. Strong understanding of customer impact.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English language
  • Confident and able to resolve staff challenges yet achieve favourable and impartial outcomes.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations.
  • Good understanding of MRP Systems (preferably SAP).
  • Proficiency in computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office applications, and learning new computer systems quickly (Visio, MS Project).
  • Ability to determine root cause and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Knowledge of FDA, cGMP, GDP and ISO preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing practices.
