Job Summary

The "Supervisor, Production Operations" position is a permanent full-time role, and is intended to train new university graduates into this supervisory role. This is a structured program that will provide on-the-job experience over a 1-2 year period, and then the incumbent will perform the role fully independently. This is a fast-paced, results oriented environment; our ability to deliver high quality medication on time is critical to the well-being of the patients who are depending on us.

Phase 1:

· Understanding the pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and learning about Apotex.

· Completion of required training.

6-9

months

Phase 2:

· Developing your leadership skills. Direct reports will be assigned to you.

· Developing your trouble-shooting and technical skills on manufacturing equipment and processes.

12-15 months

Starting in Phase 2, the incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of a specific organizational unit within our Solid Dose Production facility, including ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with Safe Work Practices, cGMP, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies. As part of the Production leadership team, the main focus is responsibility for day-to-day performance and results, developing systems and measurements to evaluate area performance and employee individual performance and contribution and lead initiatives (e.g. reliability) to facilitate improved productivity.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Complete each phase of the program successfully, within the timelines described above. Successful completion is obtained when the incumbent can enact the duties of that phase independently, without regular assistance from their mentor.
  2. Provide results oriented leadership that drives continuous improvement consistent with the site Work Plan.
  3. Co-ordinate, assign and supervise all production activities and outcomes for area of responsibility to ensure production schedule/agreed upon goals and objectives are met.
  4. Responsible to ensure compliance of team members (direct reports) with Safety and Employment policies.
  5. Develop systems and metrics to measure and evaluate both productivity and individual performance and contribution on an on-going basis.
  6. Use systems and metrics to guide the initiation and execution of safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement initiatives in support of the site Work Plan.
  7. Provide leadership to the team that fosters personal development, interaction and participation.
  8. Provide leadership as a member of the Production leadership team, building and maintaining positive relationships with the key business partners within and outside of Production (e.g. Production Maintenance, Technical Operations, other Production departments.
  9. Ensure department is professional and performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory, compliance and safety requirements. Initiate investigations and provide or implement preventive/corrective action for all safety and compliance non-conformances.
  10. Responsible and accountable for supervising the team in accordance with Ontario Occupation Health and Safety Act, Apotex Inc Health and Safety policies and Safe Work procedures (SWPs).
  11. Provide recommendations to the next level of management regarding procedural and organizational changes.
  12. Ensures their team is aligned to all departmental, site and corporate strategic initiatives.
  13. Acts as a specialized manufacturing resource to senior management to support resolution of complex issues.
  14. Represent the interests of Production Operations in the absence of the department manager.
  15. Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee's progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  16. Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Post-secondary degree from a university or college in a science related to the work being carried out (e.g. Engineering, etc.).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Computer savvy with Microsoft Office programs. Exposure to SAP or other ERPs is an asset.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment. Proactive, resourceful, and results-oriented.
    • Proven project management skills. Demonstrated experience in coordinating project activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, building positive and co-operative relationships with peers and other work partners.
    • Ability to motivate self and others.
    • Proven experience in systematic problem solving.
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Experience
    • Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred, through a co-op or other work-related experience.
    • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Previous experience in the Pharmaceutical, Food, or Consumer Packaged Goods industry is an asset.
