Job Summary

The Packaging Project Leader will independently lead continuous process improvement initiatives to improve Packaging safety, quality, capacity, reliability, cost per 1000 dosages, customer service and regulatory compliance. Represents Packaging on teams and forums where Packaging process and technical knowledge is required. Acting as a leading member of a team, the Project Leader works with others in an attempt to improving quality, productivity and timeliness of the projects being managed, with the end goal being reduction or elimination of non-value-added activities or costs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Packaging Technicians and the Packaging Technical team in analyzing Packaging processes and equipment in order to make continuous improvements focusing on Safety, Quality and Productivity.
  • Manage resources (including Coop students) to complete projects on schedule and create contingency plans to ensure minimal Packaging impact.
  • Liaise regularly with Packaging Operations, Engineering, Quality Assurance and SHE groups to coordinate project activities, to provide technical advice, leadership and updates on project status and to implement initiatives in meeting business needs.
  • Lead investigations for deviations in Packaging relating to equipment, process and product failures. Recognize critical path for investigations leading to timely identification of root cause, corrective and preventative actions. Recommend solutions for improvements in Packaging processes, reliability and compliance to Packaging Operations, Engineering and Quality Assurance. Review all investigation reports for completeness and accuracy prior to approval by Decision Making Committee.
  • In cooperation with the other Apotex project leadership team members, ensure that all systems are in place to ensure due diligence in design and construction procurement/execution and project cost and schedule controls.
  • Generate maintenance and operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Act as a coach for one or more Packaging technicians, providing strong leadership by motivating team members and fostering an environment of personal development, involvement and participation.
  • Act as a specialized manufacturing resource (Subject Matter Expert (SME)) to management in the resolution of complex issues.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in full compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), SOPs and in accordance with established Safety Standards
  • Coordinate the installation and commissioning or Packaging equipment including completing equipment installation and operational qualifications (IQ/OQs) for new and existing equipment as required
  • Identify and coordinate technical Packaging training requirements for equipment
  • Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements

  • Education
    • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Sciences or a related technical field preferred or equivalent combination of College diploma and project management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Leadership ability particularly in the areas of achieving outcomes through others, developing and maintaining positive working relationships, clarifying expectations and seeking understanding, and taking ownership and accountability for own performance
    • Ability to work within a team environment (as part of a team) as demonstrated through previous work experience
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Experience
    • 3-5 years demonstrated leadership experience particularly in the areas of achieving outcomes through others, developing and maintaining positive working relationships, clarifying expectations and seeking understanding, and taking ownership and accountability for own performance
