The Big Picture

As our team experiences rapid expansion, we are actively seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for medical devices. Key responsibilities include mentoring junior Process engineers, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in process development within the catheter-based medical device industry. 

This position is a permanent, full-time position (40-hours per week) that will be based at Baylis Medical Technologies Inc.’s office at 2645 Matheson Blvd. East. Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, L4W 5S4. The annual salary range for this position would be between CAD$88,000 and CAD$100,000, depending on experience. The Senior Process Engineer will also be eligible for a performance related annual bonus and performance increase and will receive a comprehensive benefits package which includes extended medical, dental, life, emergency travel, short and long term disability, AD&D and vision insurance, and access to a Health Care and Lifestyle spending account. We also offer a voluntary group RRSP plan.

Impact Through Innovation

  • The Senior Process Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for medical devices. Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include:

    • Leading process development on development projects, working as part of the project team.
    • Developing and installing new manufacturing and process technologies to support product development and product transfers.
    • Applying new technologies and methodologies to optimize process design and performance.
    • Establishing processes based on product specifications in line with Unit Cost metrics.
    • Evaluating process and design alternatives based on Design for Manufacturability principles.
    • Understanding principles of lean manufacturing, problem solving, DOE.
    • Completing process validation for new processes and products including IQ, OQ, PQ and PPQ.
    • Working with external vendors to specify, develop and commission new process technologies.
    • Setting up new manufacturing equipment/production lines including the selection and training of process technicians and product builders, as required.
    • Understanding work environment issues including H&S activities associated with new process development.
    • Developing manufacturing processes from prototyping to full-scale production.
    • Manufacturing and testing prototypes.
    • Designing and sourcing equipment and tooling required to meet both the capability and capacity requirements.
    • Generating work plans and schedules for development activity and executing to plan.
    • Leading process validation and equipment qualification activities.
    • Supporting and mentoring Junior Engineers.
    • Adhering to and promoting adherence to all Corporate, Quality, and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
    • All duties and responsibilities will be performed in English.

Your Unique Expertise

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field of science.
  • At least five years of experience with manufacturing process design and optimization within the highly regulated medical device industry.
  • Experience using Six Sigma methodology for process improvement and problem solving.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and use of Minitab.
  • Experience with laser welding, reflow technologies, crimping technologies, braiding, coiling, laser cutting, injection molding, and adhesive bonding.
  • Mechanical background with advanced knowledge of metals and plastics processing.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading process development on development projects from prototyping to full-scale production in the medical device industry.
  • Deep understanding of process validation for new processes and products including IQ, OQ, PQ and PPQ.
  • Experience working with external vendors to specify, develop and commission new process technologies.
Asset Skills:
  • Previous experience working within a medical device environment.
  • Strong mechanical background with a good working knowledge of metals & plastics processing.
