Job Purpose:

Provide leadership to a defined departmental area aligned to organizational strategies. Contribute to the broader client services plan through the development and implementation of a departmental strategy. Foster a continuous improvement culture to take advantage of every available opportunity to drive towards excellence and quality.

This is a hybrid job with 3 days on site. This job also includes on call hours and will involve some travel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide active leadership and development to all direct and indirect reports, ensuring all individual and team accountabilities are delivered through annual performance programs and that individual performance issues are addressed

• Develop annual operating budgets for the department. Manage the team toward consistent attainment of annual operating budget and goals

• Develop and manage business recovery plans

• Manage financials, capital planning (manpower/workforce, materials, and other expenses) for the department and individual segment of patient services (budget/P&L lines).

• Establish budgets and manage cost-effective operations that meet financial plans and support service, quality and cost KPIs

• Manage departmental specimen management processes and procedures to maximize efficiency and effectiveness within regulatory accreditation and quality requirements including EH&S, CAP, IQMH and delivery standards

• Manage information and reporting (provincial directives, SOP's, KPI's) to ensure effective communication and promote sustainability of the department

• Align capital, strategy, and plan within the department

• Develop and implement departmental strategies, ensuring participation and contribution by the departmental team in order to meet the business plan/strategy

• Lead and support system wide continuous quality improvement

• Ensure compliance with privacy legislation and internal policies

• Accountable for all Employee relations issues through the performance management policy program

• Manage and coach direct reports to ensure their performance meets present and future needs, creating a robust leadership team

• Accountable for developing and coaching future leadership team members (succession planning)

• Provide strong leadership for improvement initiatives, eliminate obstacles, and monitor improvements for effectiveness

• Support supervisors in identifying and implementing developmental opportunities as appropriate

• Create a positive employee relations climate by fostering common goals and vision in an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork

• Ensure alignment and consistency to Provincial and National Client Services and Testing initiatives

• Build and foster relationships with peers, employees, clients and business partners

• Build relationships and manage service levels with local/departmental external clients, as well as across internal functions and groups

Skills/Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Post-secondary and/or college/university education with progressively responsible business experience

Professional Registration:

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience managing a team. An understanding of the Operational Management Process (OMP) and an ability to understand and collect data that will drive optimal workflow and employee engagement. Experience working with a Specimen Management department with an understanding of how to meet the delivery needs of the testing departments. Experience working with Business Development to onboard hospital clients and other contract and non-OHIP work preferred.
