The Opportunity

This position is field based in Canada, in the Core Lab Division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

The Field Service Co-Op Student (FSCS) performs repairs and preventative maintenance of Abbott Core Lab instrumentation under the direct supervision of an Abbott Technical Service Specialist (TSS).

Abbott's Core Diagnostic instrumentation includes blood analysis and automated tube transport (track system) equipment.

Equipment, training and required materials/tools will be provided by Abbott.

What You'll Do

  • Perform repair, preventative maintenance, installation and product updates at customer site.

  • Prepare detailed documentation of each service call.

  • Perform modification and engineering updates at customer site.

  • Adhere to operating procedures.

  • Complete service documentation and reports (service tickets, expense reports, inventory records, contract follow-up, etc.) in accordance with Abbott policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled at the University of Guelph in Biomedical Engineering (year 3, 4 or 5).

  • Willing to work unscheduled overtime and travel (if required).

  • Requires lifting and transportation of laptop computer, service tools, test equipment and service part kits.

  • Requires some lifting and relocation of Abbott instrumentation during installations and / or routine service calls.

  • May require travel, including air travel.

  • Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to take key actions and demonstrate behavioral anchors that support all Abbott Core Competencies.
