BIOVECTRA has an opening for a Quality Control Senior Microbiologist. This is a permanent full-time position located in Windsor, Nova Scotia.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting microbiology manager and superintendent with training and supervision of quality control microbiologists in the laboratory
  • Developing, verifying, and validating microbiological test methods in support of product testing and release.
  • Preparing and testing microbiology samples according to USP monographs, general chapters, and in-house SOPs and Performing chemical analyses when required.
  • Identify procedural and process gaps. Write, implement and maintain SOPs for the microbiology laboratory.
  • Training of staff on new techniques/workflows
  • Outlining investigation plans and executing any associated work to determine root cause including identifying contaminants/environmental isolates.
  • Writing quality control procedures, cGMP protocols and reports
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to workflows in the micro lab
  • Ownership of CAPAs and Audit responses
  • Complying with documented safety practices for the laboratory and the manufacturing facilities.
  • Shift work as required
  • Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor's request.
  • Provide and take ownership for continuous improvements in the microbiology lab.
  • Accountable for quality assurance tasks vital to the position, including, but not limited to, monitoring of lab area, media qualification and preparation, incubator, instrument and equipment calibration, and maintenance and sterilization procedures.
  • Maintain EM databases and trending of EM data as per SOP.

The successful candidate for this position should have:

  • Bachelor of science in microbiology or related field.
  • MSc or PhD considered an asset
  • 5 years' experience working in a microbiology lab
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, microbial speciation and microbiological laboratory instrumentation
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for sterile and non-sterile products with respect to microbiological testing considered an asset
