About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager of Clinical Services, the Registered Pharmacy Technician works as a member of the inter-professional team and participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient and family centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized. Working within their legislated scope of practice and scope of employment, the Pharmacy Technician assumes responsibility for their own actions, are accountable to the public and contribute as a healthcare professional to plan of care and function of pharmacy to ensure a safe and healthy environment. The Registered Pharmacy Technician functions are self-determined, assigned through management, the pharmacist, another Pharmacy Technician or as requested by other members of the care team.

The position of Registered Pharmacy Technician - Medication Reconciliation is responsible for the coordination of clerical and technical components of clinical pharmacy services in collaboration with the clinical pharmacists. The Registered Pharmacy Technician - Medication Reconciliation will coordinate workflow in the Emergency Department including preparation of daily patient profiles (in collaboration with patient, ward clerks and/or nurses), tracking of patient flow relative to clinical pharmacist activities (e.g. admissions, transfers, discharge of patients), electronic order entry into the Pharmacy information system of orders previously reviewed by the clinical pharmacist, gathering relevant information under direction of the clinical pharmacist, ongoing communication with central drug preparation area and the clinic nurses to streamline timing of drug preparation and patient administration, forwarding of drug approval forms verified by the clinical pharmacist, and other duties as the collaborative practice evolves. Candidates must be available to work days, evenings and weekends as determined by position need.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
• Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
• Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset

• BLS (Basic Life Support) required

• Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
• Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
• Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
• Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
• Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
• Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
• Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Registered Pharmacy Technician: $28.48 - $30.58 Hourly

(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $24.48 - $27.73)
