Compensation Range

$1.00 - $500,000.00 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The expected pay range for this position is $44.39 per hour - $63.83 per hour.

Job Summary
Candidate will be completing occupational therapy patient assessments and providing occupational therapy treatment as required by the study protocol for a variety of active clinical trials ongoing at BC Children's.

Organizational Status
The candidate will be hired under the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, and will support a variety of active trials ongoing across the BC Children's campus. The candidate will report to the Senior Research Manager and work in close collaboration with other study staff and Investigators at BC Children's Hospital.

Work Performed

  • Perform clinical or research assessments for research patients, using advanced skill, knowledge and clinical reasoning.
  • Develop and facilitate occupational therapy treatment programs for participants as per the study protocol. Includes supporting patient and family education as required.
  • Develop and implement protocols and workplans as necessary to ensure completion of research projects.
  • Oversee data collection, including relevant clinical data, assessments, treatment plans, progress reports and outcomes as per study protocol requirements.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary groups and/or teams including individuals such as physicians, nursing staff, research staff, and other professionals. Advise on regulatory and professional practice requirements providing consultation, clinical advice, input and suggestions related to the conduct of clinical assessments conducted as part of a clinical trial.
  • Maintain communication with patients and families, and study team members as required.
  • Participate in orientation and training for other team members, including other therapists or research staff.
  • Work is primarily expected to be conducted in-person on site at BC Children's Hospital.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Every patient and family is unique and will require tailored clinical-decision making to optimize assessment or treatment. The candidate must be able to guide and coach the patient and family appropriately, effectively, and as per study protocol. Inappropriate judgment could result in harm to the patients. Inattention to paperwork detail (errors on forms) and study protocol could jeopardize the results to clinical trials.

Supervision Received
The candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of independence, supporting a wide-range of different clinical trials onsite. The candidate reports to the Senior Research Manager and is expected to be familiar with and oblige by professional practice policies and standards in place at BC Children's Hospital. Since the candidate will need to work with vulnerable individuals with varying medical histories, the candidate must be fully competent and independent in their abilities to work with pediatric patients.

Supervision Given
May manage junior researchers, research staff, students and/or other therapists.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in occupational therapy. Registration with College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia. Minimum of five years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A University degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Prior clinical experience in a pediatric setting.
  • Experience with research activities is an asset.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and in collaborations with others.
  • Demonstrate commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
