This position has to manage the production, quality, sanitation, safety and planning operations of the Coaldale plant to accomplish required production within approved operating budgets, as well as quality and sanitation guidelines of the facility. To provide positive and proactive leadership to all cost, quality, sanitation and safety improvement efforts. Your participation in the continuous improvement process is required, as you are a member of the leadership team at the facility. Activities desired in your role as a member of the leadership team are; safety audits, quality, process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your employees and your own current skills.

Accountabilities:

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates all activities with the Plant Manager, the Quality Assurance Manager, Technology Support Manager, Human Resource Manager, Field Manager, Safety Manager, and Plant Services Manager. Coordination is also required with corporate departments including: Production Planning, Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Marketing, Sales and Engineering. Coordination with external customers and vendors is also required.
  • Manages all production, and sanitation operations of the Othello plant. Accountable for receiving raw product, converting raw product to finished product, packaging finished product and delivering finished product to the warehouse while controlling all direct and indirect department budgets.
  • Ensures that all finished product meets established quality requirements and that the plant continually meets all sanitation, foreign material, microbiological control guidelines and adherence to statistical process control guidelines, hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) requirements, FDA requirements and other inspection agency requirements. The safety, well-being and the effectiveness of all human resources are of prime responsibility while meeting these accountabilities.
  • Engages in a wide range of activities to monitor, control and encourage innovation in operating expertise and employee development. The key challenge of this position is to continually improve the overall effectiveness of the Production Department through improvements to production and administrative costs, product quality, plant sanitation, plant safety and employee morale.
  • Creates positive working relationships and to involve others in working collectively toward achievement of department and plant goals. Through outstanding coaching, training, communications, problem solving, leadership and recognition this individual creates a focus for others in creating and maintaining a continuous improvement environment.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Communicates any problems or changes in department to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).
  • Helps to build and promote a strong "Teamwork" environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.

Production Operations

  • Plan, implement, and monitor production operations to meet scheduled production volume requirements.
  • Direct production operations to meet all production requirements with respect to cost, quality, and sanitation.
  • Assure a safe work environment and promote continuous efforts to improve the effectiveness of the plant safety improvement process.
  • Assure adherence to all Company and external quality assurance and sanitation guidelines.
  • Proactively direct and lead efforts to continually improve the production costs and quality of all products.

Human Resources

  • Support and assure implementation of all Human Resources policies and requirements.
  • Recognize exemplary employee performance.
  • Continually strive to foster a "team work" environment that provides open and honest communication across all levels.
  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities for all department employees.

Continuous Improvement

  • Solicit, review, implement, and promote process and product quality improvement ideas.
  • Develop and implement strategies for cost savings, waste reduction, and optimum production scheduling.
  • Continually develop knowledge related to innovations in the food processing industry.

Leadership, Communication, and Information Management

  • Prepare and submit necessary reports to Corporate Headquarters and the Plant Manager.
  • Promote inter-department cooperation through active involvement with all plant staff members.
  • Provide resources to department supervisors, resolve issues, and solve problems referred to the Production Manager.
  • Appraise supervisor performance and provide development guidance.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership through effective communication to all levels of management and the hourly work force.
  • Continually strive to develop personal and professional skills.

Supervisory Responsibilties:

Administers managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REPRESENTATION

Scope of Authority:

  • Has authority to start or stop lines in the plant under the direction of and accountable to the Plant Manager.
  • Approves raw product and raw product mixes for processing in accordance with product standards and factory run schedules.
  • Appropriates and approves authorized budgeted amounts for Production activities.
  • Hires, disciplines, and approves pay levels for employees in consultation with Plant Manager and Human Resources.
  • Authority to enforce McCain policies and procedures.
  • Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
  • Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.
  • Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.
  • Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or three to four years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 to 6 years production management experience in a food processing plant in a significant role.

About the team

This role is located in Coaldale, Alberta. The incoming candidate will have two production managers that will report into them and they will report into the Plant Manager. This role is customer facing and will ensure that the recepies and finished product will meet and exceed expectations of the customer. They will work on many projects, including: AOC planning, PST for new product, setting standards, and SCA opportunities. No two days will look the same in this role. We are looking for someone who can fit in with the team and work alongside the plant manager to make sure our new large site is running smoothly.
